THE PERFORMANCE OF AAL-2 CARRYING CDMA VOICE TRAFFICy

Due to cost eeciency, future personal communication networks likely will utilize the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technology to connect components of the land network infrastructure. In order to cope with bandwidth limitation on the radio access, voice is transmitted as compressed low bit-rate information. The ATM Adaptation Layer 2 (AAL-2) is designed to handle this type of low bit-rate traac. This paper discusses the capability of using AAL-2 connections to carry compressed voice between components of a CDMA network. To this end we analyze a discrete-time queuing model of the the AAL-2 mechanism combined with traac shaping.
